Dear HTS Community:
By now, many of you have read the news that we will be receiving approximately $90k in additional state aid. In addition to the $90k in state aid that was announced earlier this spring, HTS will be receiving an additional $90k ($180k total) in state aid from Trenton. Although it is appreciated and an increase from the $0 that was received this past school year (2010-11), it still marks about a 50% drop in state aid from the 2009-2010 school year. Only two years ago, HTS received over $360k in state aid. Since that time, specific programs, teachers and supplies have been cut from the budget.
Although this newest state aid was not immediately returned as property tax relief, we are currently evaluating all our options and decided it most prudent to proceed with caution. There simply is no way to reasonably predict our state aid figures for next year. As you can see above, these numbers are wildly inconsistent. If you are interested in getting involved in the HTS budget process, please do not hesitate to contact me directly via email (email@example.com) or attend one or more Board of Education Meetings. The next one will be held in the HTS Library/Media Center at 7:30pm on Monday, August 15. We look forward to working collaboratively with you.
