1:1…Here we come?

Deat HTS Community:

Earlier this week at our standing room only Upper School Back to School Night, we announced the formation of a 1:1 Committee.  This group will consist of administrators, parents and teachers and will work towards a goal of examining the feasibility of implementing a 1:1 Program at the Upper School in September, 2012.  Sweeping the nation, 1:1 Programs are designed to place a device (laptop or tablet; pc or mac) in the hands of students and teachers.  Working collaboratively, working outside of the school walls and working beyond the hours of the school day, teachers and students use technology to engage and empower learning anytime and anywhere.  If you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact me at HTS; I can be reached at aanemone@hardingtwp.org.  We look forward to partnering with you.

In the meanwhile, I have been in touch with colleagues in N.J. and around the country and learning from their endeavors.  This is the first step in a thousand mile journey, but together, we will *safely touch home plate.

Sincerely,

Alex Anemone

Any Good Apps To Share???

Dear HTS Community:

Welcome back to our first full week of school.  Summer is almost turning into autumn and the leaves will be at peak color before you know it.  Just a friendly reminder that our Back to School Nights are scheduled for Tuesday, September 20th for grades 5-8 and Wednesday, September 21st for grades K-4.  The fun begins both nights in the gymnasium at 7:00.  And one final reminder, since education is becoming more collaborative, I am looking for some quality educational apps to share with my own children as well as with colleagues.  If you have used some apps effectively, please fwd. to my attention.  I can be reached via email aanemone@hardingtwp.org

Sincerely,

Alex Anemone

Mac or PC? A simple poll…

Dear HTS Community:

Earlier today, Dr. Petersen had Orientation Meetings with the K-4 students and, later, with the 5-8 students.  At that second meeting, we took an informal poll asking the students if they preferred Macs or PCs.  The overwhelming response of students (approximately 98%) revealed a strong preference for Macs.  I’d like to poll the parent community as well.  Below are instructions that allow you to vote, using your cell phone (text message), on your preference.  We will release the results next week.

If you prefer Macs: text 305904 to 37607

If you prefer PCs: text 305905 to 37607

Sincerely,

Alex Anemone

First Day of School….and more.

Dear HTS Community:

The first day of school comes and goes each year in a blur.  This year was no different.  We opened our doors yesterday to 337 smiling students, scores of dedicated teachers and one new superintendent.  I tried my best to live blog my first day via my twitter feed (@htssupt) while, at the same time, “taking in” all that HTS had to offer.  As I mentioned in a brief email to the staff, the first day of school was absolutely fantastic.  As eager as I was for September 6th to arrive, I am even more optimistic now.  HTS has all the pieces (students, parents, teachers) in place and we are poised to have an outstanding year.

Moving forward, we have some new events this year that we would like you to bookmark on your google calendars.  Four times this fall/winter, HTS will be hosting Open House Tours to township residents who currently have their children in a non-public school.  The tours will run between 8:30-10:00a.m. on the following Fridays – October 7, November 4, December 2 and January 6.  Parents and their children are invited to come in to HTS and tour the building, meet with adminstration, observe classrooms and ask whatever questions they might have about our school, curriculum, facilities, etc.

Secondly, we will be starting our budget process very shortly.  Stakeholders interested in becoming part of the process can attend the Budget Brown Bag Lunch With Dr. Anemone.  Our first BYOL event will be from 12:00-1:00 on Tuesday, October 4.  We look forward to seeing you there.

As always, please follow me on twitter (@htssupt) for breaking HTS news, retweets from education specialists around the country and Saturday Rutgers Football updates.

Sincerely,

Alex Anemone
