Welcome Back HTS Middle School Students…

August 30, 2012

Dear HTS Middle School students:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year and welcome to the HTS Digital Learning Initiative.  As many of you already know, the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) has generously donated the money that was used to purchase all the iPads, Apple TV Boxes, App Store Vouchers, etc. for this program.  The iPad is a wonderful learning device that will assist teachers in the delivery of our curriculum and will assist you in researching, writing, communicating and much more.  Having said that, the device is very expensive and, ultimately, a privilege, not a right.  We hope you will use your iPad to further your education, continue to become lifelong learners and create a very positive digital footprint.

Also, with your iPads, the school district has provided each student with an email address.  This email is configured to only send/receive emails from other @hardingtwp.org email addresses.  In other words, your teachers, administrators and fellow students.  Please use this email responsibly and appropriately.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your parents, teachers, administrators or other adults; we are here to help you.  Have a great year and let the learning begin (don’t forget to thank your parents!)

Sincerely,

Dr. Anemone

The Daily Record…

Dear HTS Community:

As many of you know, the HTS 1:1 Digital Learning Initiative will be implemented in our middle school this school year.  We have already completed one Parent/Student Orientation session with three more on the agenda (August 28 at 10:00am, August 28 at 6:00pm and September 5 at 3:30) before classes begin.  If you have not yet done so, please register (via email aanemone@hardingtwp.org dpetersen@hardingtwp.org or via twitter @htssupt or @PetersenDarren) so we can plan accordingly.

Earlier today, the Daily Record published a wonderful article about the PTO sponsored HTS Digital Learning Initiative.  Please visit their website as well as our newly updated 1:1 Wiki Page.

Lastly, we have started a HTSSupt Instagram (picture sharing) Account.  If you have any interesting family photos from your summer vacation (Eiffel Tower, Grand Canyon, LBI, etc.) that you would like to share with the HTS community, please email them to me.

Sincerely,

Alex Anemone

September Thumbnail

Dear HTS Community:

Welcome back to school!  Our students are returning to what we believe is the best PreK-8 school district in the state.  HTS students open the school year participating in fall sports (soccer and field hockey) as well as clubs such as the Technology Student Association, Yearbook, Literary Magazine and Digital Moments.  Led by our dedicated staff members, these sports and clubs offer all of our students the opportunity to receive a well-rounded, challenging and complete education.

On the most recent (2012) State Standardized NJASK test, our students performed very well with the HTS Class of 2012 leading the way!  Our most recent graduates scored very highly in Language Arts (97.7% proficient or advanced proficient), Math (93.3% proficient or advanced proficient) and Science (93.3% proficient or advanced proficient).

New this year is our Digital Learning Initiative.  Sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Organization, the Digital Learning Initiative is a revolutionary idea in the field of education and furthers the learning anywhere, anytime paradigm.  All of our teachers (grades K-8) and students in grades 5-8 will receive an iPad 3 (pre-loaded with sundry apps) courtesy of the PTO.  Moreover, all of our classrooms will now be equipped with an Apple TV and teachers will be able to use both of these devices as a teaching tool in their respective classrooms.  This forward-thinking approach places HTS on the cutting-edge of instructional practices.  We are most proud of the fact that this grant of over $100,000.00 was awarded by our PTO and uses no district (public) funds.

Returning on Fridays this school year are our Open House Tours.  Offered to Harding Township families currently in private schools, these tours are led by school administrators and will be held on the following days: October 5, November 2, December 7 and January 11.  Tours will be held any time between 8:00-10:00a.m., or by appointment.  Guests will be able to meet with administrators, visit classrooms, tour our campus and ask pertinent questions regarding their children’s placement at HTS.  We hope to see you.

Sincerely,

Alex Anemone

Summer Packet Letter…

August 2012

Dear Harding Township School Community:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!  The malls are packed with back to school shopping, the Mets have already fallen out of the pennant race and, at HTS, we are busy preparing the final touches to our classrooms.  We enter this September on a high note and look to make a great district even better. Some district highlights are listed below:

Standardized Testing

On the most recent (2012) NJASK testing, HTS students performed very well.  Individual score reports will be sent home shortly and our district-wide scores will be presented and discussed at a Board of Education meeting later this fall.  In the meantime, I am thrilled to report that the HTS Class of 2012 led the way!  Our most recent graduates scored very highly in Language Arts (97.7% proficient or advanced proficient), Math (93.3% proficient or advanced proficient) and Science (93.3% proficient or advanced proficient).

Vision Council

The Vision Council is an organization consisting of parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education members that meets quarterly at HTS.  Although multifaceted, the Vision Council, historically, did a tremendous amount of work leading up to the April Board of Education budget vote.  Since there have been some changes to our budget calendar (click here for a review), we felt it was time to refocus and reposition the Vision Council as more of a site-based management group.  The new Vision Council will preserve district traditions and provide parents and stakeholders with an opportunity to solicit new ideas for continuous district improvement.  If you are interested in serving on the Vision Council, please contact me at school; we are looking for two parent co-chairs.  Meetings will be held quarterly (October 3, December 5, February 6 and May 8) either in the morning or during the evening.

Construction Improvements

Although not nearly exciting as our new 1:1 iPad Learning Initiative, we have invested money into our infrastructure over the summer months.  Our summer projects (roofing, flooring, etc.) have all been routine maintenance and will allow us to continue to provide a quality learning environment for our children.
